Mike Casey started sewing custom leather goods back in grade school, honing his skills in design and fabrication of specialty items from concept to final product. Mike has many years of sailing and boating experience and understands the need for practical and functional solutions for your boat. Mike has also owner many businesses in his career and takes pride in the success of The Canvas Works along with his partner Chris.
Angelines Herrero brings 25 years of marine canvas experience to our team. Angelines started her career in Palma de Mallorca where she worked on projects for some of the largest yachts in the Mediterranean. She knows her way around both power and sailboats and has fabricated every conceivable canvas accessory. Angelines is an expert at pattern construction for custom applications.
Chris joined our team in July 2017 and has recently become part owner. He learned to sew in middle school and has owned a machine and been sewing various projects since college. Though new to the marine fabrication business, Chris brings a breadth of experience to the crew. His value in and commitment to the highest standards of customer service comes from working in the outdoor retail industry for several companies that expect employees to put the customer first. He has been a science educator and independent school administrator for the past 25 years. Chris moved to Marin from Portland, OR and prior to joining the TCW team was the Head of Middle School at an independent school in San Francisco.
Emily joined our team in the summer of 2015. She moved to Marin with her family from Portland, Oregon and is enjoying learning about the world of boats. Emily has a Fine Arts degree and her background is in art and graphic design. She learned the craft of sewing from her mother at a young age and has enjoyed sewing most of her life. She is contributing to our team with support in many areas of the business including marketing, sewing, design and customer service.
Wiulver Apen is better know as Jose and has been a wonderful addition to our team. Jose made his way to America from Guatemala. He is originally from Santa Catarina Barahona Sakcatepequez, a descendant of the Cakchiquel Maya. Jose is an amazing seamstress and loves to work and learn new things. He sews lightening fast too. He loves sports and meeting new people as well as considers himself an adventurous and cheerful person….and he is!
Candice is the newest member of our team and brings with her a delightful personality and wealth of sewing knowledge. She is originally from Zululand in South Africa. She grew up on a tea farm and has been sewing since she was 5 years old. Her talents took her to the Art Institute in San Francisco and she has taught sewing as well as run her own school for many years. She is also very knowledgeable about sailing having sailed across many oceans. Candice also generously brings fresh bagels more often then not. Yumm!
Blaine grew up in Half Moon Bay and as a child, cruised down the coast of Mexico where he was engrained with a life surrounded by water. He later went to school in Monterey for a degree in Environmental Science and has been with us for a year. He began his own path of sewing after years of watching his mother and grandmother sew everything from dog toys to wedding dresses. He loves the challenges and sense of accomplishment that the canvas industry brings, and works hard towards making the final installed products look as good as they are crafted!
Lady Linderman de las doce islas
Lady Linderman, better know as just Brownie come to the shop from the shores of Mallorca. Although she is a fine breed of water dog, she is best know for her companionship in the shop. She also likes to bark at the UPS delivery people because they wear brown.
Jazzy is the newest canine addition to our staff. She has her own storage area for all of her balls. She loves the docks of Sausalito and her favorite part of the day is a swim or a romp at lunchtime. She has not learned how to sew yet but we hope to teach her.
